Myths
Myth 1 - Homoeopathy cures only chronic illnesses, not acute ailments.

Fact - Homoeopathy cures both chronic and acute ailments. In fact, an acute disease becomes chronic only when its symptoms are allowed to develop further. If homoeopathy can effectively cure chronic ailments, then why can't it cure acute illnesses? In fact, at 'The Laduna Homoeopathic Clinic', we have successfully treated acute illnesses like Viral Infections (dengue, viral fever, hepatitis, chickenpox etc.), UTI, colds, infections, fevers, diarrhoea, and many more, with mostly early than allopathic mode of treatment which form 40% of our total cases.
Myth 2 - Homoeopathy is slow to act.

Fact - Homoeopathy acts fast in acute illnesses like colds, infections, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. However, it takes a little longer for chronic ailments like asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, kidney failure, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, etc. The time taken to heal varies depending upon one's immune system, stress factors, lifestyle, habits and personality, although the medicines start working instantly, as we administer it. Moreover in chronic illness where patient use to take lifelong treatment with gradual increasing doses, if we cure it in months or years it is rather early.
Myth 3 - Homoeopathic medicine is mere placebo effect.

Fact - Research has proven that a homoeopathic medicine is much above placebo effect. In fact, in India, homoeopathic medicines undergo clinical trials conducted by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, the regulatory body for homoeopathic practices. As homoeopathic medicines also cure infants and animals, the theory that they are placebos is invalid. Those who tries to find the effect of homoeopathic medicine on some disease by giving one medicine to all patients; they fail because the homoeopathic medicines are individual’s medicine not of disease.
Myth 4 - Homoeopathic medicines contain steroids.

Fact - Not at all rather homoeopathic medicines are made of natural ingredients like plants, minerals, etc. Especially the ones made out of plants generally contain ALKALOIDS which are much effective and free of side-effects (like excessive body hair, backache, etc.), unlike steroids.
Myth 5 - Homoeopathic medicines are unsafe for pregnant women.

Fact - The homoeopathic medicines are not at all unsafe for pregnant women; rather homoeopathy is the ideal medicine for pregnant women. Where regular medicines can have possible side-effects on both mother and child, homoeopathic medicines are gentle and address problems like nausea, anemia, backache, cramps, morning sickness, heartburn, diarrhoea, blood pressure, emotional distress, etc. which normally occur during pregnancy. Also, since a tiny amount of active ingredient is used, homoeopathic medicines are safe for the growing baby.
Myth 6 - Homoeopathy is not advisable for treating cancers, especially as a supplement to radiation and chemotherapy.

Fact - The following factors make Homoeopathy viable for treating cancer:

• Individualized remedies even if conventional treatment is not used
• Remedies easing the conventional treatment
• Remedies for soothing pain, fear of death and other psychological issues
• Remedies preventing relapse

Homoeopathy has proved to be successful in curing even the most severe cases, because it identifies the root cause (which varies from person to person) and uproots cancer completely.
Myth 7 - Infections can be treated by antibiotics only.

Fact - Antibiotics just suppress the infection, without identifying its root cause. They don't kill the virus; so it shows up in the form of some other aggravated sickness later. Also, they have side-effects like stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, diarrhoea, etc. Homoeopathy uproots both the disease and its root cause without any side-effects, and strengthens the immune system to fight disease germs, thus bringing down recurrence. Thus homoeopathic treatment is better way of treatment for infections. Moreover it can treat the drug resistant (where antibiotics have no response) infections successfully.
Myth 8 - Homoeopathy is practised by quacks having no scientific/medical background.

Fact - It is not true, rather Homoeopathy is a full-fledged medical science which requires thorough study before practice. In India, homoeopathy is a 5 1/2-year degree course including 1-year compulsory internship. Subjects are the same as allopathy, along with homoeopathic science and philosophy. M.D. in Homoeopathy is of 3 years comprising subjects, viz. Repertory, MateriaMedica, Organon of Medicine, Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Practice of Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, etc.
Myth 9 - Homoeopathic medicines have side-effects.

Fact - In some cases, there may be a slight aggravation of symptoms due to increase in potency. This subsides in small period of time, as the potency is reduced. However, this does not happen in all cases. Aggravation of symptoms also depends upon one's constitution and body-system. But, this does not come under side-effects; in fact, it is exteriorization of disease strengthening the immune system. In our practice this kind of slight aggravation is also minimized because of appropriate potency, dose and repetition of medicine.
Myth 10 - Foods like onion, garlic, tea, coffee, etc. must be avoided during homoeopathic treatment.

Fact - It is advised not to consume anything 15-20 minutes before and after taking homoeopathic medicines. Medicine acts through receptors of tongue so, it is better to rinse the mouth if it smells of onion, garlic, etc. Otherwise, generally there is no need to avoid any foodstuffs during the treatment.
Myth 11 - Homoeopath doesn't need any diagnosis or investigation.

Fact - Investigations are important but in different way, homoeopath requires diagnosis to confirm the curability of sickness, proper follow up and to give appropriate direction to the patient. If not available, then case history becomes vital to find out the individual symptoms. Our prescription is not directly based upon investigations of course it is true.
Myth 12 - All homoeopathic medicines are the same, small and white.

Fact - The round small white sugar tablets are just the medium for the real medicine which is dissolved in them. In fact, there are around 3000 different dilutions of medicines, out of which one is selected according to the case.
Myth 13 - What is the white powder used with homoeopathic medicines?

Fact - The white powder used with homoeopathic medicines is lactose (sugar of milk) powder, which is made from milk, it contains no any medicinal value, and it is just the medium for medicine.
Myth 14 - Homoeopathy cannot cure fevers.

Fact - It cure fever by removing the cause of fever, Homoeopathy scores over regular medicine for curing fevers in the following respects:

• It can cure those fevers which are not yet diagnosed even.
• No loss of appetite and quick recovery
• No weakness after treatment
• It Strengthen the immune system
• Rarely, any relapse
• No side-effects.
• Can cure drug resistant fevers also.
Myth 15 - Sweet homoeopathic medicines should not be taken by diabetic patients.

Fact - The sweet white round tablet are made of lactose, not glucose. Also, they are too minute to disturb blood sugar levels. Not to forget that homoeopathy provides excellent solutions for diabetes as well, by improving the functioning of pancreatic cells to produce insulin on their own. Thus, homoeopathy suits even diabetic patients.
